Birth to Early Childhood

Kevin is of Congolese descent and is the youngest from a family of three. He was born in the Northern Surburbs of Paris in a small town called Sarcelles. From a young age, Kevin was surrounded by violence and found himself having to adapt to the violent ways of the area he was born in, in order to survive. When Kevin was nine years of age his mother made the decision to relocate to Croydon in South London in 2003. Kevin’s brothers returned to Paris whilst he stayed with his mother in London as she was severely ill. He attended Broadmead Primary school in Croydon.

Adolescence

Kevin attended Haling Manor Secondary school in his adolescent years and tried heading in the right direction educationally. At the age of 16, that all changed when the question “What ends are you from?” kept recurring. Kevin made the decision to combat the gang culture he kept being faced with through joining a gang. Meanwhile, Kevin had been receiving news from back home in Paris that childhood friends were dying and being incarcerated. He had his own wake up call when he was ambushed in North London by youths in possession of knives who violently attacked him. Angered by the ordeal, Kevin wanted to go down the route of retaliation. However, not too long after the incident, he was invited to a church service that would change the trajectory of his life.

Early Adulthood/ Adulthood & Education

At the age of nineteen, Kevin made a transition from his previous and became a born-again Christian. Although he had given his life to Christ, he felt inadequate because of the lack of GCSEs he had left secondary school. Between this age into his early twenties, Kevin struggled to get his life back on track and went through several job interview rejections. At the age of twenty one, Kevin stumbled across the opportunity to be able to gain the necessary qualifications to get into university via an Access course. Kevin was able to gather the finances to pay for the course and acquired the qualifications to gain entry into West London University to study Law. During his degree, Kevin started volunteering at PRU schools and this eventually led to a path of Activism. In his second year of University, this activism translated into Kevin’s first book that he wrote independently entitled ‘Young Black Males Have Potential.’ The book touches on the stereotypes and struggles faced by young males in the minorities and provides motivation, productive solutions and self-help techniques in order to overcome and challenge these struggles and stereotypes. The book was released in October 2017 and slowly to gain media attention. Kevin graduated with a 2:1 degree in Law in 2018.
